Class 82(2) [Also in Group XXXVI] A capacitor comprising a glass tube 13, carrying fired silver contacts 15, 18, carries a first electrode 14 of evaporated aluminium which is coated with a dielectric layer 16 of SiO 2 formed by sputtering silicon in an atmosphere of oxygen and argon, a second electrode 17 being evaporated thereon. Dielectric and conductor layers 19, 21 are deposited and metallic end-caps soldered to the contacts 15, 18. In another embodiment (Fig. 1, not shown) the layers are deposited on one side of a flat glass plate. A vacuum turret apparatus (Figs. 3, 4, not shown) for depositing the layers is described.
