Abstract

1,195,756. Cathode-ray tubes. MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO. Ltd. 22 Nov., 1968 [27 Nov., 1967; 27 Dec., 1967], No. 55489/68. Heading H1D. [Also in Divisions B3 and C7] A method of making an electron-permeable window for an electronic recording tube comprises evaporating or sputtering a layer 2 of a metal such as nickel on a glass support 1 and exposing the completed layer to air for several minutes; evaporating a metal 4 such as gold, silver or platinum on the layer 2; depositing a further metal layer 4, e.g. of nickel by a plating process; and stripping off the layers 3 and 4 to form the window. Any pin-holes in the window may be sealed by coating the interior surfaces of the window with a silicone resin or an epoxy resin and applying suction to the opposite surface; the resin may be removed by a solvent, or a thin layer may be allowed to remain. This layer may be coated with an evaporated layer of aluminium to prevent charge from accumulating on the dielectric. As shown in Fig. 2, an insulating layer 5 may be formed on the layer 4 by a photo-resist process followed by further nickel plating to produce the support layer 6, the layer 5 then being moved. The window may be arranged between two support members (8 and 10, Fig. 3 not shown) which are bonded together and to the envelope by binder layers (9 and 12).
