Abstract

1,005,249. Cathode-ray storage tubes. MACHLETT LABORATORIES Inc. March 12, 1962 [Aug. 30, 1961], No. 9399/62. Heading H1D. A target structure for the storage of electrical charges, e.g. for television pick-up tubes or charge storage tubes, comprises a metal film 13 carrying a plurality of discrete spaced conductive metal elements 16, 20 on both sides of the film with each metal element on one side located in register with a metal element on the other side of the film, the portions of the film located between registering metal elements being conductive, while the exposed areas 14 of the film surrounding the elements arenon- conducting. The metal elements are of a chemically non-reactive metal, e.g. gold, platinum, chromium, rhodium or nickel, whilst the film is of aluminium or copper. In a method of manufacture, a layer of discrete spaced metal elements is deposited on a lacquer base substrate 12 which is itself deposited on a glass support 10, and a thin metal film is deposited over the elements and lacquer. A second layer of metal elements is deposited in register with the first layer over the film, and the composite structure is exposed to an oxidizing or fluoridizing atmosphere.
