Abstract
Polyethylene terephthalate fibres, for use as surgical sutures, are dyed with a solution of a specified oil-soluble, water-insoluble dyestuff in formamide or an alkyl formamide or in an aqueous mixture thereof. Mono- and di-alkyl formamides containing alkyl chains of 1-7 carbon atoms may be employed. A list of suitable dyestuffs of the azo, quinoline, anthraquinone, thio-indigo and isoxanthrone series is given. Dyeing may be effected at the boil or at higher temperatures under pressure.
