Abstract

Fibres, films and other shaped structures of aromatic polyesters are dyed with insoluble azo dyestuffs prepared from 2 : 3-hydroxynaphthoic acid or a derivative thereof substituted in the 6-position as coupling component and a mono-or di-amine of the azobenzene or diphenyl series as diazo component by treating the structures in a bath containing both components, first under alkaline conditions, and then under acid conditions, and subsequently effecting diazotisation and coupling. Examples are given.
