Abstract

Linear aromatic polyester fibres, fabrics, films and like shaped articles are dyed with a monoazo dyestuff of the formula: <FORM:0795701/IV (b)/1> wherein A and B = radicals of the benzene series free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups, R = a carboxylic acid ester or carboxylamide group having at most 5 carbon atoms and n = 1 or 2. Dyeing is effected at boiling or higher temperature if desired in the presence of a swelling agent, such as benzoic acid. The dyestuff of the formula: <FORM:0795701/IV (b)/2> is prepared by diazotizing 4-amino-benzoic acid methyl ester and coupling with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone. Other dyestuffs in which the radical R is C2H5-OOC-, HO-H4C2 HN.OC-, and H2N-OC- are described.
