878,341. Carding-engines. NORCROSS, R. A. Sept. 27, 1957 [June 27, 1956], No. 19951/56. Class 120(1) A fibre processing machine comprises a preliminary carding cylinder having associated working and stripping cylinders, a main carding cylinder, a doffer, means for supplying fibre to the preliminary carding cylinder, means for transferring the fibres from the preliminary cylinder to the main cylinder working flats associated with the main cylinder and means for removing the fibres from the main cylinder. In the embodiment shown material is fed to the machine by a lattice conveyer 11 and passes beneath a roller 97 which, in the event of over-feed, raises sufficiently to operate a switch to stop the lattice until take-in rollers 14 have forwarded excess material. A preliminary cylinder 13 is provided with workers and strippers 16, 17 driven respectively by belts and chains and a transfer arrangemnt of six small rollers 18, 22 and a larger roller 19 forwards the material to a second carding cylinder 21 provided with workers and strippers 23, 24. The final carding cylinder 27 has flats 28 and material removed from it by rollers 31, 32 passes to a doffer 29 and then to a secondary doffer 33. Doffer 29 is driven from doffer 33 by a fast-and-slowmotion drive.
