Abstract
A textile thread-guide (which may be a pig-tail, lease-rod, or of the double-disc type) is provided with an abrasion-resistant layer by flame-spraying on to the surface of the guide a layer of material which is then made smooth. The material may be metallic or non-metallic; chromium steel, tungsten carbide and ceramics containing a major proportion of an oxide of aluminium, zirconium or titanium are mentioned. When the lastmentioned is the material used, it may contain a flux such as zinc oxide and is deposited in a form which dissipates static charges generated in use. The surface is roughened by shot-blasting before spraying, and smoothing is effected by grinding or polishing or by the application of a coldcuring resin, e.g. an epoxy resin.ALSO:A textile thread-guide (which may be a pig-tail, lease-rod, or of the double-disc type) is provided with an abrasion-resistant layer by flame-spraying on to the surface of the guide a layer of material which is then made smooth. The material may be metallic, chromium steel and tungsten carbide being mentioned. The surface is roughened by shot-blasting before spraying, and smoothing is effected by grinding or polishing or by the application of a cold-curing resin.
