Class 140 In apparatus for applying liquids to yarn, e.g. polyester yarn, wherein a rotating roll collects a film of liquid on its peripheral surface and conveys it to a moving yarn which makes contact with the peripheral surface, the roll is made of, or surfaced with, hard-wearing particles bonded together. The hard-wearing particles may be sand. emery. silicon carbide, oxides and silicates of metals-such as iron and aluminium, or diamond, bonded with acrylate or methacrylate resins, a vitrified binder, or by sintering. Commercially available abrasive wheels may be used. The previous use of glass rolls with roughened surfaces is referred to.
