Abstract

<PICT:0800680/IV (a)/1> <PICT:0800680/IV (a)/2> A gear-finishing tool comprises a gear-like body in which at least the surface portions of the teeth to a substantial depth are formed of a rigid moulded synthetic resin compound in which are embedded abrasive particles some of which have portions exposed at the surfaces of the teeth. The tool 10, Fig. 1, may be formed throughout of resin, the abrasive particles, e.g. of 40-120 grit carborundum, being concentrated in the surface portions of the teeth 12. The tool may be reinforced by short glass fibres or by material woven from glass fibres. The tool may comprise a cam 20, Fig. 2, of ferrous material, e.g. steel or cast iron, and a coating 24 of resin material containing abrasive particles. The composition may be: .Parts by weight .Epoxy resin . ..12 .60-Grit carborundum.12 .Hardener . . ..1 The plastic may be phenol-formaldehyde, phenol-furfural or polyester resin; glass or asbestos fibres may be used to reinforce the tool.
