Abstract
A composition from which a tool for grinding hard alloys is formed comprises diamond and carborundum powder as abrasive, graphite dust, a liquid phenol-aldehyde resin as binding agent, and a reactive pulverulent artificial resin. A fibrous material such as cotton wool may be added. A tool may be made by adding to equal parts by weight of diamond and carborundum powder passing through a sieve having 150 to 200 meshes per cm. a greater part of graphite dust, a small quantity of reactive pulverulent artificial resin, and a relatively greater quantity of liquid phenolaldehyde resin, these substances being mixed together at 100 DEG C. the cotton wool &c. being added, the mixture being heated to 80 DEG C. for about 12 hours and put into moulds with metal discs, paper discs, wires or other reinforcements. The material is heated in the mould under pressure for 5 to 6 minutes at 170 DEG C., and is ready for use on cooling down. A stronger binding is obtained by further heating for 15 to 20 minutes at 150 DEG C.
