Abstract

Imitation stone slabs are prepared in a mould by coating the inside surface of the bottom of the mould with a coat of synthetic thermosetting resinous material, placing stone chips on top of said coat when set, vibrating the mould to settle the chips so that they may present a substantially flat surface, coating said surface with a layer of synthetic resinous material, curing the synthetic thermosetting resinous material, adding sufficient uncured concrete to fill the mould to the required slab thickness, vibrating the mould to remove air bubbles from the concrete, and curing the concrete. The synthetic resinous material is preferably a polyester or epoxide resin. The stone chips are preferably granite. The concrete preferably comprises a mixture of 3 parts meshed granite chips, two parts washed sand, and one part Portland cement, measured by volume. The bottom of the mould preferably comprises a sheet of polished plate glass which has been treated with a release agent.
