Abstract

Resinous compositions for bonding a plasticfaced fabric to a rigid backing comprise a thermosetting or cold setting synthetic resin, a hardening agent for the resin, a wetting agent for the fabric and a filler. Optical bleaching agents such as those sold under the Registered Trade Marks "Tinopal" or "Uvitex" may be added. The hardeners are used in powdered form or may be applied in solution to one of the surfaces while the resins solution is sprayed on the other surface. In examples: (1) 15 parts of a powdered mixture of ammonium chloride and china clay are added to 100 parts ureaformaldehyde resin syrup, 20 parts TiO2, 5 parts water and 2 parts "Teepol" and the mixture sprayed on to a fabric which is then applied to a rigid backing to give a laminate; (2) a hardener mixture comprising 6 parts ammonium chloride, 100 parts water and 2 parts "Teepol" is applied to one surface and a mixture of 100 parts urea-formaldehyde resin syrup, 5 parts TiO2 and 1 part "Teepol" sprayed on the other surface; (3) 100 parts resin syrup, 10 parts TiO2, 10 parts lithopone and 1 part "Teepol" are employed as the resin mixture in (2).
