Abstract

An epoxy resin mix comprises 1 pound epoxy resin, 1/4 pound hardener, 6 ounces soya fatty diamine, 3 ounces atomized aluminium powder, and 3 ounces precipitate calcium carbonate. The hardener is heated to 50 DEG C. and the fatty diamine stirred in; when cool, the mixture is added to the epoxy resin, and the aluminium and calcium carbonate are added successively. The quantities may be + or - 15%. A similar composition but without the fatty diamine is used as a backing mixture.ALSO:Mould halves for use in injection-moulding e.g. epoxy resin steering wheels are made by coating a wood or clay pattern with a pasting agent, e.g. grease or black-lead polish, spraying the pattern with a low-melting point bismuth alloy, and then applying an epoxy resin backing, which may be reinforced with glass fibre or a metal frame. Epoxy resin is injected under air pressure around a metal frame to form the finished wheel.
