Abstract

676,916. Moulding sulphur and sand compositions. ROMEI, R., and CIONI, G. Feb. 28, 1951 [May 15, 1950], No. 12062/50. Classes 70 and 87(ii) A process for the production of moulded articles comprises the steps of adding together sulphur and silver sand, heating the mixture at the boiling point of sulphur for at least half an hour, mixing them thoroughly until evenly distributed in the mixture, placing the resultant mixture in a mould whilst still hot, and allowing it to cool until hardened whilst still in the mould. Colouring powders of a kind unaffected by the heat may be added, vegetable black being especially suitable. If the proportions of powdered sulphur and silver sand are 80 : 100 the resultant product, yellowish-green in colour, is suitable for articles such as vases. Equal proportions result in a stronger but more expensive article. A mottled appearance can be given to the finished product by adding pumice powder to the mixture, the quantity of which should be small, 4 or 5 parts to 10 parts of silver sand. The surface finish on the moulded article can be varied according to the type of finish on the mould.
