Abstract

Shaped articles made from rubber are produced by a process which comprises the steps of (1) substantially shaping the vulcanizable precursor of the rubber composition, (2) treating the "article" with an aliphatic amine or a salt thereof so that the amine diffuses into the rubber composition, and (3) vulcanizing the article. The amines specified are diethylamine, triethylamine, n-propylamine, di-n-propyl-amine, n-butylamine, di-n-butylamine, n-amylamine, ethylenediamine, triethylene-diamine, tetramethylenediamine, pentamethy-lenediamine and hexamethylenediamine. The amines may be applied as a solution in a volatile solvent which may also contain similar vulcanizing ingredients as the mix to avoid undue leaching.
