Abstract

A flame-resistant chip-board or panel produced by moulding under pressure cellulosic particles such as wood chips or flax shives with 4 to 25 per cent. (based on the dry weight of the particles) of a synthetic resin binding agent, containg 5 to 30 per cent of powdered boric acid. According to an example, 7 parts of powdered boric acid were intimately mixed with 15 parts of a liquid urea-formaldehyde resin and 6 parts of water were stirred in; the resulting suspension was sprayed on to 72 parts wood chips of 4-6 per cent moisture content. The intimate mixture so obtained was moulded into boards of 1/2 inch thickness at 400 p.s.i. for 10 minutes at 130 DEG C.
