Abstract

Slabs are made by pressing, by means of a press, disintegrated fibrous material, e.g., wood meal and wool and cutter shavings, having less than 10 per cent of moisture, mixed with from 3 to 8 per cent dry weight of a resin glue in a two-part mould, locking the mould parts in the pressed position, removing the mould from the press, and curing the resin glue. The material may be given a hot or cold prepressing prior to the main pressing. The resin glue may be liquid of solid and may be a mixture of, e.g., carbamide resin, formaldehyde, and a catalyst. Larger quantities of resin may be used for the surface layers. The slabs may be reinforced with wooden laths. Coarse and fine particles may be arranged in layers with or without intermediate paper layers. The slabs are sawn up into boards. Specification 648,908 is referred to.
