Class 70 [Also in Group VIII] Sheet products, lumber or boards are made from a mixture of fibrous material and a thermo-setting bonding agent, or from wood or ligno-cellulosic fibres, by forming a pad of the material, the pad having a moisture content of not more than 25 per cent, applying high-temperature steam under pressure to affect a penetration of the pad, mechanically compressing the pad while subjected to such steam, then subjecting the pad to vacuum while still under mechanical pressure. The fibrous material may be wood fibres, plastic-coated glass or asbestos fibres, plain cellulose fibres, or vegetable fibre from cornstalks or bagasse, and bonding agents obtained by grinding brown rotted wood, as referred to in Specification 662,034, thermosetting resins such as phenol-formaldehyde, or a plastic obtained by the high-temperature hydrolysis of wood or vegetable fibre in water or steam, may be used therewith.
