Abstract
877,207. Releasable fasteners. MAIN, J. A. Jan. 31, 1958 [Feb. 1, 1957], No. 3513/57. Class 44. A jewellery snap fastener of the tongue and socket type in which a resilient tongue 11 is received in and snap engages an end of a box-like socket 12 and which has manually operable means 13 on the tongue for releasing the engagement, is provided with a projection 30 on the resilient tongue for co-operation with a locking latch 24 which is associated with a manually operable locking member 18, said member being mounted for pivotal movement into locking and unlocking positions and transmitting angular movement to the locking latch which is in the socket during such movement whereby the tongue can be locked or unlocked. The locking latch is also the pivot pin for the member 18 and is provided with a groove 27 which in the unlocking position of the member 18 registers with the projection 30 on the tongue to permit the tongue to be withdrawn from the socket; when the member 18 is in the locking position in which it rests upon the top of the socket the position of the pin is such that the tongue cannot be withdrawn, the projection 30 engaging the periphery of the pin.
