Abstract
894,684. Releasable fastenings. ALLOM BROS. Ltd. Sept. 28, 1960 [Sept. 28, 1959], No. 32933/59. Class 44. A fastening for releasably securing an electric light or other fitting 21 to a support 9 comprises a base member 5 adapted to be attached to the support and a catch member 14 which is guided for longitudinal movement on the base member between a locking position and release position, the catch member when in the release position being capable of limited lateral movement for releasable engagement with the fitting and means for resiliently restraining the catch member from longitudinal movement in both its locking and release position. As shown the restraining means is a toggle mechanism. The end of the catch member, which is extended in the release position, is formed with a slot to receive a tongue 19 carried by the fitting for the purpose of holding the fitting to the fastening. As shown the catch member is guided for the longitudinal movement between a flange 7 on the base member and a lug (not shown) which is pushed out from the material of the base member. The base member is provided with an L-shaped slot 23 to which the catch member is connected by means of a pin 24. Also connected to the pin 24 are two arms 35 which are coupled to a slide 28 which is connected by means of a pin 29 with a slot 30 in the base member; the slide is loaded by means of a spring 34 and the spring loaded slide and arms 35 constitute the toggle mechanism. When the catch member is in its extended position the short arm of the L-shaped slot 23 permits the limited lateral movement of the catch member against the pressure of the spring 34. This limited lateral movement permits the engagement and disengagement of the catch member and the tongue 19. Two fastenings are normally used one on each side of the fitting 21.
