Abstract

876,416. Valves. CHIKSAN CO. Dec. 8, 1959, No. 41743/59. Class 135. [Also in Group XXVIII] A gate valve comprises a body A having a valve member 25 located in a chamber 15 and clamped against a seating 16 by a member 26 acting between the valve member and an opposed seating 17, the clamp member being urged into firm engagement with the valve member by a crank-and-lever actuating means 37, 39, 40. The clamp member 26, of wedge shape, is provided with an extension 38 having a bore 43 engaged by a crank pin 39, the crankshaft 36 being journalled in a bearing 35. In operation, when it is desired to change the valve plate from the closed position shown to the open position, the lever 40, secured to the crankshaft, is rotated through 180 degrees thereby lifting the clamp member out of engagement; the position of the valve plate is then reversed and the latter again clamped by the member 26. Sealing rings 30 are provided in grooves 31 formed in the clamp member and valve plate; alternatively, the grooves may be formed in the seatings 16, 17. An opening 44 in the extension 38 is provided to facilitate removal of the clamp member.
