Abstract
990,767. Stud and socket fastenings. CRANE Ltd. June 14, 1963, No. 23772/63. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] A valve stem 9 is coupled to a closure member 11 by a pair of J shaped members 21 which engage, through a transverse slot 19, in the upper tubular portion 18 of a closure member, to key into position within a valve stem groove 22. The members 21 may be retained in position by contact of their ends 24 with the close fitting bonnet wall 23 or, alternatively, if the chamber 23 is of larger diameter, by a split ring (not shown) within a circumferential groove of the closure member portion 18. The thrust load upon seating is taken by the valve stem buttonhead 15, bearing directly against a thrust washer 14. The upper part of the valve stem buttonhead forms a seat 16 for engagement, in the valve open position, with a bonnet seating 17. The valve is operated by rotation of the stem.
