In an end fitting attached to a hose having a braided wire reinforcement 10 between an inner lining tube 11, e.g. of rubber, and an outer flexible cover 12 and wherein the reinforcement is gripped to secure the fitting to the hose, means are provided for axially compressing an annular flap 16 constituted by the end of the lining tube 11 whereby the flap is radially expanded between inner and outer walls provided by the end fiting so as to make a fluid tight seal therewith. As shown in Fig 1, the reinforcement 10 is gripped between a tapered surface 17 on a body part 14 and tapered threads 28 in a ferrule 27 fitted over the hose and screwed on to the part 14. A tubular pressure-applying member 18 screwed into the part 14 has an end face 19 engageable with the flap 16 and carries a sleeve 23 free to rotate relatively thereto and which is inserted within the flap 16 to provide the inner wall against which the flap is expanded, the outer wall being provided by the internal surface 15 of the part 14. The extension 31 of the part 14 may be formed with an internal lip. In a modification, Fig. 2, a part 18a is contained wholly within the body part 14a. In a further modification, not shown, the part 14 also provides the surface 19 and carries the sleeve 23, washers being inserted between the surface 19 and the flap 16.
