875,474. Machinery beds. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. July 31, 1959 [Aug. 13, 1958], No. 25990/58. Class 80 (4). [Also in Group XXVI. A floating support for a member 2, such as an aero engine having a rotary shaft 1 flexibly coupled at 3 to a shaft 4 of members such as dynamometers 5, 6 in an engine test bed, which support permits horizontal and vertical movement of the member 2 to balance torque reaction and to permit shaft alignment, comprises a frame 13 connected by pivoted links 15, 16 to levers 17, 18 journalled in supports 28, 29 mounted in a bed 30 and having their adjacent ends pivoted to a connecting link 24. Hydraulic dampers 19, 20 are connected between each lever and link pair and a counterbalancing mass 31 may be carried by the lever 18. A snubber ring 32 limits engine movement. Flight simulating forward and reverse thrusts may be applied to the engine during test as well as reaction torque, the latter by varying the balance mass 31 or by laterally loading the engine.
