Class 106 (2) A dynamic testing machine comprises in combination an apparatus 1 for testing elastic test pieces by vibrations of high amplitude and lower power and an apparatus 21 for testing rigid test pieces by vibrations of low amplitude and high power, the combination having a common power source 2, 3 and an articulated system of rigid rods 35, 36a, 36b and levers 30, 31, 37 whereby the reciprocating force is transmitted from the drive 2 in a closed cycle in such a manner that no additional strain is imposed on the apparatus frames. Elastic test pieces are mounted between chucks 3 and 4a and subjected direct to the high amplitude low-power thrust of the source 2, and rigid test pieces 6 are mounted vertically between plates 22, 25 and subjected to low amplitude high power thrusts by levers 30, 31, rod 35 and lever 37, an equal and opposite thrust being set up in the rods 36a, 36b between the respective frames of the two machines. The struts 23 may be displaced vertically by gearing for static tension or compression tests on the test-piece 6.
