Abstract

1,019,378. Testing physical properties. INTERNATIONAL RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT CO. Ltd. Dec. 7, 1964 [Oct. 30, 1963], No. 42920/63. Heading G1S. Apparatus for testing materials under stress, comprises a means for holding the specimen of material 6 under test, means 7 for causing the specimen to vibrate, and fluid-pressure-operated bellows 8 for applying a force to the specimen to place it under stress. In one embodiment the specimen 6 is supported on a movable platford 5 to the base of which is connected a shaft 7a of a vibration generator. Between the platform 5 and a base member 1 is a bellows 8 which is subjected to gas pressure from a supply line 9. The force applied to the specimen from the bellows compresses it against the bridge 4 and the vibration of the platform 5 vibrates the specimen. In another embodiment the bellows are mounted above the specimen and again applies a compressive force to the specimen.
