875,447. Change-speed gear. HAHN, E., [trading as INDEX-WERKE KOMM.-GES., HAHN & TESSKEY]. Dec. 19, 1957 [Feb. 22, 1957], No. 39563/57. Class 80 (2). A gear for driving a machine-tool workspindle 14 at four clockwise and two anticlockwise ratios which, by a re-arrangement of gear-wheels can be changed to four anti-clockwise and two clockwise ratios, comprises three intermediate shafts V1, V2, V3 with their axes arranged to pass through the apices of an isosceles and preferably equilateral triangle, the first and second shafts V1, V2, and second and third shafts V2, V3 being permanently geared together respectively by gear pairs 42, 43 and 45, 47 and all three shafts carrying freely mounted clutch-controlled wheels, two of which, viz. 59, 71, on the shafts V2, V3, being connected by chains 61, 74 to sprockets selectively connectible to the output spindle 14 by clutches E, F. All the freely-mounted wheels are in constant mesh as follows. The wheel 71 meshes a wheel 66 on the shaft V2 and a wheel 56 on the shaft V1. Wheels 53, 59 are in constant mesh and are clutchable at A and B to the wheels 56, 66 respectively. The wheels 71, 66 can be clutched to their respective shaft at D and C. Power paths from an input motor 35 to the output spindle 14 for the ratios are as follows : 1st. Shaft V1, wheels 42, 43, clutch C, wheels 66, 71, 56, clutch A, wheels 53, 59, chain 61 and clutch E. 2nd. Shaft V1, wheels 42, 43, clutch C, wheels 66, 71, chain 74 and clutch F. 3rd. Shaft V1, wheels 42, 43, 45, 47, clutch D, wheels 71, 56, clutch A, wheels 53, 59, chain 61 and clutch E. 4th. Shaft V1, wheels 42, 43, 45, 47, clutch D, wheel 71, chain 74 and clutch F. For the two reverse ratios:- 1st. Shaft V1, wheels 42, 43, clutches C, B, wheel 59, chain 61 and clutch E. 2nd. Shaft V1, wheels 42, 43, 45, 47, clutch D, wheels 71, 66, clutch B, wheel 59, chain 61 and clutch E. All these ratios may be reversed to give four anticlockwise and two clockwise ratios by changing the wheel 43 from the shaft V2 to V3 whilst still meshing 42, this being permitted by the equidistant axes. The spindle can be locked whilst leaving the driving motor free by engaging together clutches A and B and disengaging C and D. In Fig. 11 (not shown), the chain sprockets are integral with the wheels 53, 66. Ratio relations are specified. The clutches are as shown cam controlled. The toothed wheels may be replaced by friction wheels.
