Abstract

875,290. Stuffing-box substitutes. PERFECT CIRCLE CORPORATION. Sept. 11, 1958 [June 16, 1958], No. 29116/58. Class 122 (5). The stem 14 of an internalcombustion engine valve is sealed by an L-section collar 24 engaging the stem and embedded in the transverse wall 32 of a rubber &c. cupshaped member 31 which resiliently fits over the end of the valve guide 15. The collar 24 is made of trifluorochloroethylene (Kel-F) or, preferably, tetrafluoroethylene, both materials being non-wettable by engine lubricating oil. The grip of the member 31 on the guide is augmented by a metal spring-ring 38.
