Abstract

974,421. Oil seals. HEPWORTH & GRANDAGE Ltd. July 31, 1962 [July 31, 1961], No. 27713/61. Heading F2B. An oil seal for a valve guide 6 comprises a rubber &c. sleeve 1 which fits tightly over the guide and carries at its free end 1a a collar 2 of polytetrafluorethylene which sealingly engages the valve stem 3. The end la of the sleeve engages a groove 4 in the collar 2 and an internal flange 5 is formed at the other end of the sleeve. The flange 5 may be omitted or replaced by an external flange. In Fig. 5, the sleeve is reinforced where it grips the guide 6 by a metal sleeve 10. In another modification, Fig. 7 (not shown), the sleeve has an internal rib engaging a groove in the guide and the collar has an external rib engaging a groove in the sleeve.
