Abstract

875,225. Bearing cages. BIRFIELD ENGINEERING Ltd. Aug. 14, 1958 [Aug. 31, 1957], No. 27494/57. Class 12 (1). A roller bearing cage 1, formed of a plastic material such as nylon, comprises a substantially cylindrical tube having openings 2 adapted to receive rollers 3, and an end portion 4 forming outer sealing lips 7, 9 and inner sealing lips 8, 10. The radially inner ends of the openings 2 are reduced in width to prevent the rollers from falling inwardly. The bearings may be retained in a cup-shaped housing. Alternatively, the bearing elements may be balls. The invention may be applied to a universal joint.
