Abstract
874,709. Typewriters &c. INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORPORATION. July 8, 1958 [July 11, 1957], No. 21912/58. Class 100(4) A printing device comprises type wheels 5 mounted on a carrier element 4 rotatable with a setting element 3 about a common shaft S. Selection of one of the type wheels depends on the sensing of a group hole in a punched card while the particular type of that wheel selected depends on the sensing of the digital hole. During sensing spring rods 6 keep the elements 3, 4 in contact with a bail 7, being moved anticlockwise, until release of a pawl 9 stops the element 4 with the appropriate type wheel 5 in printing position and the subsequent release of a pawl 10 stops the element 3 after its movement relative to the element 4 has brought the appropriate type face into position. Impression now occurs when a lever 25 releases a catch 8 to allow a spring 18 to swing a support 1 for the shaft S about its pivot 2. The support is restored by a bail 20. The pawls 9, 10 remain engaged with the elements 4, 3 during the swinging for impression.
