Abstract

874,004. Rotary table moulding machines. STOKES CORPORATION, F. J. May 20, 1960 [July 13, 1959], No. 17941/60. Class 87(2). A tablet forming machine having a rotary horizontal table 22 with a plurality of dies 24 and punches aligned with said dies, comprises a dome-shaped floorless feeding shoe spaced above the table and means vibrating a wall of the feeding shoe. Powdered material is delivered by hoppers 34, 36 to shoe 48, having an open end 49, and then to dies 24 in which it is compacted by upper punches 18 and lower punches (not shown). Hoppers 34, 36 are arranged as shown so that entrapped air may be released through gap 38, and are vibrated respectively at a frequency of at least ten thousand cycles per second by members 40, 53, e.g. of the magnetostrictive type, through couplers 44, 56. A leaf spring 50, adjustable by screw 52 is provided in shoe 48 to provide good packing of the powdered material and guiding devices 76, 90 are provided to direct material escaping from shoe 48 to the month 49. Resilient members 72 are provided to insulate the frame from vibration and the tablets are removed by device 30 and shoot 28. A wall of the shoe may be vibrated by a similar horizontal vibrating device Fig. 7, (not shown), and air may be removed from a single hopper by an upwardly extending duct, Fig. 5, (not shown). Numerous vibrators may be provided, Fig. 8 (not shown).
