Abstract

873,674. Toothed gearing. AUTO UNION G.m.b.H. March 31, 1958 [April 3, 1957], No. 10272/58. Addition to 873,553. Class 80 (1). [Also in Group XXXIV] As a modification of the rack - and - pinion steering-gear of the parent Specification the resilient bushes 6 of rubber or polyurethane in which the shaft of the pinion 5 rotates are mounted in an eccentric bore of the flanged bush 3, and the latter is angularly adjustable relatively to the steering-box 2 to vary the distance between the pinion 5 and rack 1. As shown, the bush 3 is adjustably secured to the box 2 by bolts 30 passing through arcuate slots in a flange 28 of the bush. One of the bushes 6 is formed with a sealing-lip 27 engaging the pinion shaft. In a modification the sealing lip is shaped to engage an annular rib on the shaft. It is stated that the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 of the parent Specification may also be modified to incorporate adjustment and sealing means.
