Abstract
873,302. Laminates. REYNOLDS METALS CO. Sept. 24, 1959 [Oct. 3, 1958; Feb. 2, 1959], No. 32526/59. Class 140. [Also in Group XVII] Laminated material for making sectionable containers comprises a first ply of stiff fibrous material having tear lines formed by cutting it, and a second ply laminated thereto. The second ply is readily tearable, thinner and lighter than the first ply, and includes metal foil to render it impervious to the intended contents of the containers. It may be a simple metal foil, or a metal foil laminated to thin paper. The tear lines of the first ply are preferably parallel to each other and substantially parallel to the fibres of that ply. As shown, a web 22 of paperboard is cut in interrupted slits by the knives 34. Adhesive is applied to a web of metal foil 26 by the roll 40. The two webs are laminated together between the rolls 36 and pass to the machine 46 where they are cut and scored to form the carton blanks 48. The Specification includes detailed descriptions, with drawings, of several forms of carton blanks and cartons that can be manufactured from this material. U.S.A. Specification 2,490,133 is referred to.
