In making a bearing housing in which a detachable cap 2 of a relatively hard metal, e.g. steel, is secured to a main body 1, e.g. a crankcase, of a softer metal, e.g. a light alloy, the bore of the main body 1 is first made undersize, the bore of the cap is made oversize, a layer 5 of a metal, e.g. a light alloy, of similar machining characteristics to the metal of the body 1, is deposited in the bore of the cap 2 and the bearing housing is bored out to the required diameter with the cap in position.
