Abstract

872,622. Dolly-forming machines. DUNLOP RUBBER CO. Ltd. Nov. 20, 1957 [Dec. 14, 1956], No. 38172/56. Class 87(2). A machine for rolling lengths of sheet rubber into rolls or dollies comprises a conveyer 1 and a roller 5 located transversely thereof, the roller 5 being closely adjacent to the surface of the conveyer, having its axis substantially parallel to the conveyers carrying surface, having means to drive it so that its surface adjacent to the conveyer moves in a direction opposite to the direction of movement of the conveyer at substantially the same or a greater speed, and having means for moving it to and away from the conveyer. The roller 5 is mounted on a frame 2 which is pivotted at 3 and movable against adjustable stops 6a by a piston and cylinder 14 and is driven by chains 7, 10 and a reduction gear 12 connected to the conveyer drive. The surface of the roller 5 may have longitudinal ribs. In operation a sheet of rubber 18 is carried by the conveyer 1 until its leading edge contacts the roller 5 which rolls it into a dolly, the piston and cylinder 14 is then operated to raise the roller 5 and allow the dolly to pass underneath.
