Abstract

871,574. Binaural loud-speaker systems. DECCA RECORD CO. Ltd. May 4, 1959 [Feb. 2, 1958], No. 39639/57. Class 40 (4). Loud-speakers are rotatably mounted on oppositely placed doors of a gramophone cabinet so that opening the doors spaces the loudspeakers further apart. As seen in Fig. 7 a loudspeaker is mounted behind a grille 53 in a cylinder 52 pivotally mounted between brackets 54 in the curved portion of a wrap-round door 51 hinged to the back of a cabinet 50. A similar door and loud-speaker is hinged to the other side of the cabinet. The door may have a grille at its curved portion so that when the door is shut the loud-speaker cylinder 52 may be rotated so as to direct sound outwardly through the door. When the door is open the cylinder 52 may be directed according to preference. The brackets 54 may be made flexible so that the cylinder 52 may be detached and be stood, or hung, in any preferred position away from the cabinet. A tie rod may connect the cylinder 52 with the cabinet so that as the door opens the cylinder is rotated with its loud-speaker always facing forwardly of the cabinet, (see Fig. 6 not shown). As shown in Fig. 5, the loud-speakers may be hinged to one edge of a grille 42 the other edge of which is hinged to the door 41. When the door 41 is swung open on its hinge to the back of the cabinet the loud-speakers may be placed in a variety of positions and at a variety of angles on each side of the cabinet. The loudspeakers may be mounted so as to be slidable outwardly of the cabinet.
