/. ANTENNAE 3f STEREOPHONIC CABINET This invention relates generally to cabinets for storing objects.
A principle object of the present invention is to provide a cabinet designed particularly for holding all of the individual component units of a high fidelity sound system in an attractive manner so that it will improve the decor of a room.
Another object is to provide a stereophonic cabinet in which a hidden alarm system is included so to protect the individual component units from being removed.
Yet another object is to provide a stereophonic cabinet which also includes removable and adjustable shelves so to support reading matter such as books and magazines as well as ornamental items such as sculpture.
Other objects are to provide a stereophonic cabinet which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of the invention.
FIG. 2 shows a modification thereof.
FIG. 3 shows a detail of a further modified form of the invention in which the antennae are pivotally attached to each cabinet screen door so to be less conspicuous and harmonize with the gull of the screens; the antennae thus being fully adjustable by the door swinging and the pivotal adjustment.
FIG. 4 is a detail of a burglar alarm system that is activated when any unit is attempted to be removed from the cabinet.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, and more particularly to FIG. 1 thereof at this time, the reference numeral represents a stereophonic cabinet according to the present invention wherein the same is of book-case or breakfront type by having a plurality of compartments that are accessible from a front side.
The cabinet 10 can be made of any material, and preferably of attractive woods so to make a pleasing appearance within a room. The woodwork includes horizontal base 11 from which upstanding walls 12 extend and are capped by platform 13. Removable shelves 14 between the walls 12 divide the area into upper and lower compartments 15 for holding phonograph records, books, magazines and decorative objects of art.
On top of platform 13 vertical side walls 16 and central partition 17 support shelves 18 to form compartments 19, one of which holds an AM-FM tuner 20. Other of these compartments hold environmental control 21, tape recorder 22 (the compartment also including a tape drawer 23), amplifier 24, pre-amplifier 25 and a record player 26. The record player compartment is closable by its own individual, hinged, glass framed, front door 27.
The front side of the compartments 19 are closable by two, hinged doors 28 fitted with protective and decorative screens 29. The doors 28 include a hasp unit 30 to receive a padlock, thus preventing unauthorized persons access to the high fidelity sound system components.
The rear sides of the compartments 15 and 19 are closed by a protective screen 31 for the same reason.
The top of the cabinet 10 is decoratively constructed with sloping roof 32, and an antenna 33 may be mounted thereupon, and which may or may not be connected to a roof antenna of a home.
The platform 13 projects at each end sufficiently so that speakers 34 may be placed there upon.
As shown in FIG. 4, a compartment 35 directly under the roof 32 may contain a burglar alarm system 36 that includes an alarm bell 37 connected by plug 38 to a power source, the bell being in circuit with a switch 39 under each sound system component so that if the component is removed, as shown at 40, the switch closes the circuit to the alarm bell 37 so to summon help or frighten away a prospective thief.
In FIG. 2, a modified design of stereophonic cabinet 41 incorporates the features described above for the cabinet 10, except that it is smaller so that it includes only two of the compartments l5, and fewer compartments 19 which in this case house the speaker 34, en vironmental control 21 and a tape drawer 23, all of which are behind a single, screened door 28.
The speaker 34 in cabinet 41 is the same as each speaker 34 in the main cabinet 10, and can be placed in four units for quadrophonic sound effect.
It is to be noted that in each cabinet 10 and 41, the entire lower structure including the platform 13 can be a separate unit from the rest of the structure on top of it which would comprise another unit, so that they could be located separately, if wished.
In FIG. 3, a modified design of the invention incorporates the antenna 33 in the screens 29 of each screened door 28, the antenna arms 41 each normally resting in a same direction as the screen wires, each arm 42 being pivotable at 43 for adjustment which each door is pivotable about its hinges, thus giving complete antennal adjustability for best reception.
Thus various forms of stereophonic cabinets have been provided.
While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as is defined by the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
l. A stereophonic cabinet comprising a lower unit having a horizontal base adapted to rest on a support surface, including vertical side walls capped with a horizontal platform extending symmetrically outwardly beyond the side walls, in combination with an upper unit mounted removably on said platform, said lower unit having compartments between the side walls, wherein said upper unit comprises vertical end walls with compartments having various stereophonic components therein, said compartments being symmetric relative to the vertical axis of said cabinet including similar speaker compartments with speakers therein adjacent to each side wall in combination with a sloping roof at the top of the upper unit, said roof having an apex along the vertical center line of the cabinet, said apex being vertically spaced from said compartments providing a chamber therebetween, including a pair of screen doors pivoted on the end walls having inner edges disposed in close adjacency when closed provided with locking means at said edges including an electric burglar alarm housed in said chamber, wherein the speaker compartments are defined by the exterior of the end walls, overhanging portions of said roof, and
the portion of the platform which extends beyond the side walls of the lower unit, including an antennae pivotally mounted on each screen door.
