Abstract

903,995. Loud-speaker enclosures. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Sept. 5, 1958 [Sept. 10, 1957], No. 28582/58. Class 40 (4). A loud-speaker enclosure includes at least one damping unit (Fig. 4) comprising a primary enclosure having at least one unrestricted aperture 13 in a side or rear wall communicating with a secondary enclosure in the form of a cabinet. Each damping unit has acoustic resistance material 21 at its rear wall and if more than one unit is used the respective units are designed to be effective at different resonance points of the loud-speaker system and are fitted one inside the other as shown in Fig. 5. A preferred embodiment (Figs. 9 and 10) has the cabinet in two parts 23, 24 with the damping unit in the former part with its aperture at 22. Strengthening ribs 27 are fitted, the holes shown in the horizontal ribs being provided to enable screw bolts (not shown) to hold the two parts together.
