Class 29 The relative humidity of the air in a refrigerating chamber is maintained constant, within limits, by supplying heat from an automatically controlled radiator i when the humidity is too high and water from a spray or trickle device c controlled by an automatic shut-off device l when the humidity is too low, the arrangement being such that water trickles or sprays over the radiator i and is evaporated on the surface thereof. A humidity responsive device h has two contacts 3, 9, the heater i being switched on when the contact 3 is engaged due to excessive humidity, and both heater i and the electromagnetically controlled water valve l when the contact 9 is engaged due to the humidity being too low. Neither the valve l nor heater i are switched on if the humidity lies between the desired limits. When contact 3 or 9 is engaged, a time switch k is set in motion so that the elements i, l are only on for a proportion of the time e.g. two minutes out of every ten. A fan may be used to force air in the chamber over the radiator which may be heated by hot water controlled by an automatically actuated valve.
