Abstract

1,144,912. Air conditioning. BORG-WARNER CORP. 25 May, 1966 [11 June, 1965], No. 23450/66. Heading F4V. An air conditioning system provides purified air at a controlled humidity and temperature to a hyperbaric chamber 10. Atmospheric air is intimately mixed with alkaline potassium permanganate in a water-sealed compressor 13, excess moisture is removed in a separator 22, and excess humidity is removed in a dehumidifier 30. Some air may by-pass the dehumidifier 30 along a conduit 50 controlled by a valve 51 operated by a solenoid 52 in response to a humidistat 53, and is mixed with dehumidified air to control the humidity in the chamber 10. Electrical heating coils 68, 71, responsive to thermostats 69, 72 respectively, may control the temperature of the air entering the chamber 10. A reservoir 17, containing a chemical dispenser 21 for the potassium permanganate, provides water for the water-sealed compressor 13 and for a fluid coil 74 in a condenser 73. The condenser 73 forms part of a refrigeration circuit 26. The water from the reservoir is cooled by being returned to the reservoir through a spray nozzle 78. The refrigeration circuit 26 cools liquid in an evaporator fluid coil 28 which feeds the fluid coil 29 in the dehumidifier 30.
