Abstract
694,763. Refrigerating. HILL & CO., Inc., C. V. Sept. 18, 1951, No. 21911/51. Class 29 The supply of heat for defrosting the evaporator 10 of a refrigerating system is controlled by a timer 24 the contacts 26 of which are connected in series with contacts 34 which open and close in response to a condition of the system in such a way as to terminate and restart the supply of heat during the time the contacts 26 are closed, so that the temperature during defrosting does not exceed a predetermined maximum. As shown, the contacts 26, when closed, energize a solenoid 28 which then opens a valve 40 to supply hot gas to the evaporator 10 from the compressor 2. The contacts 34 are actuated either by a bellows 48 responsive to pressure in the outlet pipe 18 of the evaporator or by a thermostat responsive to the temperature of the evaporator or of the refrigerated space. The bellows 48 can be adjusted by a screw 50. The control system may be applied to apparatus using electric heaters to effect defrosting. Specification 630,579 is referred to.
