Abstract
1427926 Refrigeration AXSTANE PROPERTIES Ltd 4 April 1973 [5 April 1972] 15588/72 Heading F4H [Also in Division G1] A thermistor located on the suction side of a compressor of a refrigeration system senses the presence of liquid refrigerant in the suction line and actuates an electrical circuit to provide a visual and/or audible alarm and, optionally, to stop the compressor. The thermistor is heated electrically to a temperature above that of the cold gas in the suction line and cools rapidly when contacted by liquid to cause a significant change in its resistance. The resistance change of the thermistor 4, Fig. 4, may be used to bleed hot gas from the compressor outlet into the suction line through an on/off solenoid valve controlled by-pass 20. A manually-settable flow control valve 18 may be included in the by-pass. A time delay may be associated with the solenoid valve SV to prevent hunting. A modulating valve may be provided in place of the flow control valve and controlled by a thermostat in the compressor outlet for preventing the temperature of the gas in the compressor outlet from exceeding a predetermined value.
