Abstract

1389767 Liquid level alarm systems BORG-WARNER CORP 26 Feb 1973 [15 March 1972] 9320/73 Heading G1N An alarm circuit for detecting when a liquid in a container rises above a predetermined level comprises an NTC thermistor 21 Fig.2 in the container at the said level, connected in series with a resistor 25 across A. C. supply lines 18a, 18b, whereby the thermistor normally has a raised temperature and a low resistance, but when it is covered by the . liquid its temperature falls, its resistance rises and the voltage drop across it is sufficient to switch on a first SCR 34 followed by a second SCR 32 which short-circuits a relay winding 42 and opens switches 43, 44 to disconnect the supply to e.g. a compressor. In the embodiment described, the liquid is a mixture of oil and a refrigerant which boils when it covers the thermistor, thereby reducing its temperature very rapidly.
