Abstract

870,742. Welding chains by pressure. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. June 30, 1959 [July 4, 1958], No. 22358/59. Class 83 (4). In making a chain link from two U-shaped blanks having limbs with pointed end surfaces, the pointed ends of the limbs of the blanks are pressed together and current is passed between the blanks, the point on each end surface of each blank being in a plane passing through the longitudinal axes of both limbs and displaced outwardly from the centre of the limb. The end surfaces of one U-shaped link-blank 1 are conical with the apices of the cones in the plane A-A, Fig. 2, but with each apex displaced outwardly from the centre of the respective end. Two such blanks are butted and joined by resistance welding, the current being supplied in pulses. The material of the link blanks may be 12-25 mm. in diameter. Specification 844,166 is referred to.
