Abstract
705,748. Jointing. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and SOWTER, A: B Feb. 19. 1952 [March 16, 1951], No. 6411/51. Class 83 (4) A tool having a pressure applying surface of circular or similar shape is used to weld members by pressure alone or with the supply of a very limited amount of heat, one of the members having a surface to be welded which is curved in a section parallel to the direction of applied pressure so as to present a convex surface to the other member. In one embodiment a scratch brushed copper rod 1, Fig. 2, 3/ 16 inch diameter is placed between two scratch brushed annealed copper strips 2, 3 of 0.04 inch thickness, in a jig and steel pins 4, 5 with flat circular tips are forced together in a press until the gap between them. is 0.056 inch. The members 1, 2, 3 may be subsequently solidly compacted by forging. In another embodiment two round conductors 6, 7 Fig. 3, are laid upon one another and welded by circular tipped tools
