Abstract

The invention comprises dyes of formula:- <FORM:0870698/IV(c)/1> where A is the residue of a phenol or a 1, 3-dihydroxybenzene. They are made by coupling, in an acid medium, 1 mol of diazotized 4-nitro-aniline with 1 mol of the naphthol component, 1 mol of the product being coupled in weak alkaline medium with 1 mol of tetrazotized 4, 41-diaminodiphenyl sulphide and 1 mol of an appropriate A component is allowed to couple with the disazo dye thus formed. Indicated for A are phenol, cresols, xylenols, resorcinol and 4-methyl-1, 3-dihydroxy-benzene. The dyes colour leather in green shades. An example is provided.
