Abstract

Hexakisazo dyes of the type <FORM:0481070/IV/1> in which A = an unsulphonated p-diamine of the diphenyl series, B = H acid, C = a sulphonated monamine and D = an aryl-m-aminophenol of the type <FORM:0481070/IV/2> which may or may not carry a methyl or methoxy group in the non-phenolic nucleus in o- or p-position to NH, or an amino group in m-position to NH, but is unsubstituted in the phenolic nucleus are made by first coupling in mineral acid solution the tetrazotized diamine A (1 mol.) with H acid (1 mol.), then coupling the intermediate product in alkaline solution with the diazotized amine C (1 mol.) and finally coupling in alkaline solution 2 mols. of the product thus formed with 1 mol. of the m-aminophenol D. They dye and stain leather in black shades. In an example the components specified are benzidine, H acid, sulphanilic acid and m-hydroxydiphenylamine.
