Abstract

557,460. Dyes. HOWARD, G. F., MENDOZA, M., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. May 18, 1942, No. 6688. [Class 2 (iii)] Hexakisazo dyes, giving fast grey to black shades on leather, are obtained by coupling with resorcinol, m-phenylenediamine or maminophenol (1 mol.) a diazodisazo compound (2 mols.) obtained by coupling 1: 8 : 3 : 6- aminonaphtholsulphonic acid (1 mol.) with a tetrazotized 4 : 41-diaminodiphenyl (1 mol.) and a diazotized primary arylamine, one coupling with the 1 : 8 : 3 : 6-acid being effected in an acid and the other in an alkaline medium. Examples relate to the production of the dyestuffs, (1) [aniline or sulphanilic acid or 41 - amino - 4 - nitro - diphenylamine - 2 - sulphonic acid# (alkaline) 1 : 8 : 3 : 6- acid (acid) #benzidine] 2 <SP>#</SP># m-phenylenediamine (1 mol.); (2) [sulphanilic acid# (alkaline) 1:8:3:6- acid (acid) #benzidine] 2 <SP>#</SP># resorcinol, or maminophenol (1 mol.); (3) [sulphanilic acid# (acid) 1 : 8 : 3 : 6-acid (alkaline) #benzidine or dianisidine] 2 <SP>#</SP># m-phenylenediamine (1 mol.).
